Laboratory Testing on site is so important to health
posted February 15, 2012

In Rota, Kenya, many of the patients who are seen in the clinic come from many kilometers away. When they are seen they are often ill with fevers, rashes, weight loss, masses, etc. Distinguishing one illness from another is so important in order to provide proper medical care. In the US we would simply call in a few days with the results, but in this part of the world that is difficult or impossible and the patient may never find out the result of a test. Is is important to run the test while the patient waits.
Your generous donation makes it possible fr us to employ a laboratory technician at the site who can look at blood and urine samples, skin scrapings, and do rapid HIV testing. By providing this service, we can diagnose HIV, malaria, urine infections, TB, and fungal infections on the spot. This allows the patient to leave the clinic with the appropriate medications and follow up needed to ensure a rapid recovery or at least get started on the correct treatment course and be referred to the proper facility.
