History taking and examining are part of Kespa’s clinical work

Kespa examining patient web
Dear Haris, Sabrina, Linda, Donna, Nicole, Joel, Marisa, Dean and Julie, Dwayne and Terese, Jerame, Leo, Rick and Beth, Sanjiv-Rajani, Susan, Lowry, Marty and Lorri, Richard, Mark and Lisbet, Bill, Scott, Emily & Drew, Audrey, Molly, and Allan,

Our clinical officer, Kespa, is very well liked in the community and spends quality time with her patients – a rarity anywhere!  Here we see her talking to the patient to find out the problem and history and then thoroughly examining the patient.

After this she will decide upon the correct course of action of treatment.  In this case,  Anna has brought her daughter Rose in for a fever.  Since there are no x-rays at Rota, the diagnosis must be made by physical exam.

Kespa listens carefully, takes the pulse, feels the stomach, and looks in Rose’s ears. Since she heard crackles in the chest she knows that Rose has pneumonia and needs antibiotics which were supplied by Humanity for Children.  This allows Anna to go home assured that Rose is getting good care and will soon be well.

Without a clinical officer on site, she would have had to go 15km to Kisumu to see a doctor and then would have needed to buy the medications herself.  This is almost impossible for the people of Rota. Likely, Anna would have just waited and seen how Rose did. Thanks to you Rose and 1500 other children were able to be seen and diagnosed in Rota. Since HFC began supporting a clinical officer in Rota last year, no child has died in the area. This is a testament to the worth of your donations! Your donations are definitely saving lives!

Thank you very much Molly, Mark & Lisbet, Bill, Marty & Lorri, Leo (2 days!), Richard, Wat, Rick & Beth, Sanjiv-Rajani, Susan, Jerame, Dwayne & Terese, Dean & Julie, Haris, Sabrina, Audrey (3 days!), Linda (2 days!), Donna, Nicole, Joel, Marisa (2 days!), Emily & Drew, Scott and Allan (2 days!) for helping to support our clinical officer, in Rota, Kenya for one month!
